Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" Wilson

Elizabeth Anne Wilson

October 20, 1935 - March 10, 2024

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Anne Wilson, aged 88. Betty was born in Lena, Manitoba, growing up in a farming family with her parents and twin brother Robert (Bob). Out of school, Betty trained in the secretarial / administrative field, and as a young woman, she met the love of her life, Dahl Wilson, in the Thornhill, Manitoba area; they married in 1955. The family moved their farming operation, lock, stock and barrel, to Wawanesa in 1959. Betty thrived in helping keep the farm operation running smoothly, and was the "head poultry master", keeping her flock of chickens, (and even some cantankerous geese and turkeys from time to time) as well as operating an egg selling business for many, many years until they decided to retire to Brandon in 1995. In retirement, Betty was an active volunteer, spending countless hours working at the Nearly New Shop, a consignment store that operated as a fundraising arm for the Brandon Regional Health Centre Auxiliary. Betty and Dahl also enjoyed their first "real vacations" seeing places like Cuba, Portugal and the eastern coast of Canada and the US. As retirees, Betty and Dahl first owned a home in the Linden Lanes area in Brandon, but as the years added on, they were looking for low maintenance living and relocated to a lovely two bedroom suite at Lions Manor on Victoria Avenue East in 2009. Betty was very active, and went on daily walks, even in inclimate weather, and she also enjoyed the group exercise classes at the Manor, as well as the art group where she honed her painting skills. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, Betty is predeceased by her husband Dahl, her brother Robert, and her parents. She is survived by her son, Ron (Jeanette), daughter Lori McLean (Tom), daughter Shirley Germain (Dwayne), and son Ken (Jennifer Klazek), as well as her grandchildren, Aster Waldene (Hailu Ejeta), Rick McLean (Kim), Donnevan Germain (Melissa), Ryan Germain (Paige King), Eli Wilson and Declan Wilson and great grandchildren, Hana Germain, Ayden McLean, Emersyn McLean and Abenezer Takele. A celebration of life will be held at Brockie Donovan Funeral Chapel, 332-8th Street, Brandon, on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers (always on the frugal side, mom thought they were a waste of money!) donations can be made to Defeat Duchenne Canada, a charity that has a close meaning to the Wilson family via their website at www.defeatduchenne.ca
